Ifa University: What’s the importance of culture’ & ‘tradition’, to a modern man ?

Do you know that one Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa, a member of group Ifa University, asks: “Of what use is this so called ‘culture’ and ‘tradition’, to a modern man, who lives and dreams technology? Can the believe in them bring any technological innovation and orientation, which can make us surpass the white people, who have done away with theirs?”

Could some people please address his question, PLEASE?

1st Answer
Adébóyè Adégbénró: Before you could have full understanding of anything, you have to be inside of it, not trying to wrap your head around it. There and then would you have full understanding- and it does not stop there. Just like inventions and new innovations in science and what have you, ‘culture’ and ‘tradition’ are not stagnant but have progressions that are still connected to the original source. The mistakes our folks make is eliminating the roots to forge a new move, new light or a new beginning. We all know the result of the river that forgot its roots. My ten cents.

2nd Answer

Shimone Canty: If he knew where the computer came from, he wouldn’t say such things. I will help him a lil… the code of the computer, which you see as color, shapes, sizes, etc on your computer screen is really just ones and zeros. This advanced system came from the Holy Odu printing of unlocking the universe. Yes, when we mark Odu today we use ones and zeros, just as our ancestors did. So, where would the world be today without computers? Where would the world be today without Ifa? We have always surpassed the so called white people, you just need to look from a different angle, the God angle.

3rd Answer (The Best Answer)
Sue Kucklick Arencibia: Ifá is a binary system. The first computers known to mankind are the divination systems. But instead of transmitting stale data, they connect us to the world of spirit and immensities of understanding.

4th Answer:

Fajemirokun Chris: Why is it that you never see any traditionalist in any key post? It is simply because we have gone astray. We need to make ammendments. Ki a ma tan ara wa je, ni didarulko awon Irunmolw ni gbogbo igba. We are all hipocrites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5th Answer
Mr. Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa talked from the viewpoint of those badly affected and brainwashed by hundred years of the colonialists deliberate system of mental slavery. Emancipated people like Prof. Moyo Okediji now easily consult Ifa on the laptop! Emancipate yourself, fully get at breast with our asa ati orisa, then you’ll have an edge.

Balogun Adesina to Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa
You seem to lack the knowledge of how things work. First of all Cultural religion or traditional religion is a civilization so as all kinds of religion is. It’s a backlink to identify with a source of creation in other words your ancestors.

What you don’t get is, there has been physiological attack of this precious identity since the fall of Oyo Empire. Even before then, there were religious viruses attack mainly from the west and east (other religions and mostly Christianity and Islam) against the traditional religion or our way of life.

This has always been my argument. When you subjugate an enclave by taking away their voices(Via all sorts of religious propaganda against their traditional invisible religions), you automatically kill their future and what else could come of a subjugated environment ? If anything good, won’t you attack it the same way you did even to their civilization ?

Let me give you a good example here.. Even in the example bellow.. The man found CTE, despite the fact that he identified with the Christians (non believer of Ifa) he was still attacked by the NLF oligarchs. This is the typical example of the attack against the traditional religion of Ifa and any invention or what so ever that comes out of it.

Can you now imagine how the picture would look like if the CTE man in the above video was a believer of Traditional religion ?

Conclusion is.. Virtually everything in life is like a war zone. Even human beings are in war with millions of viruses. So to defend our civilization so future people like the CTE guy above can feel proud of identifying with his traditional religion/Ifa destiny. We have got to continue fighting the information war against our traditional religion or identity.

  1. Some of our brothers on the continent seem to think the knowledge of science and technology dropped from the sky, not realizing that there’s a sequential order to the evolution of knowledge of science and technology. And in this order, one’s culture precedes everything else.

It’s one’s culture and environment that shape one’s psyche; one’s psyche shapes one’s ecology; one’s ecology in turn shapes one’s mythology; one’s mythology shapes one’s metaphysics; one’s metaphysics in turn shapes one’s epistemology; and lastly, one’s epistemology shapes one’s moral and scientific philosophies. And it’s from one’s scientific philosophy that the knowledge of science and technology develops.

All that to say, if one does not master the cultural realities and the epistemology of one’s environment, it’s impossible for one to develop scientifically and technologically!

One of the treatises that’s responsible for European scientific revolution was Geometria Nova, a book on the Geomancy of IFA divination. The book was originally written in Arabic but was later translated to Latin by Hugo of Santalla. Having been translated, Null and Leibniz went on to use the binary concept of IFA therein to develop the binary code theory, and later the computer system.

  2. I see this all the time in my counseling practice. People and the children of being separated from culture. The semi semi colons? I see all sorts of spiritual manifestations! And it messes with brain chemistry too.

  3. Colonized people are doomed because the target of the colonizer is not really the land and material resources of the colony; the main target of the colonizer is the brain of the colonized person, the only instrument with which the colonized entity could use for liberation struggle.

Colonization is worse than slavery. The slave is only an economic condition, in fact, the lowest class in the capitalist hierarchy. The colon (that is the colonized person) is a chronic mental injury induced with psychological weapons.

Akinfenwa Sunday Muyiwa and many other Africans manifest symptoms of colonial trauma with the statement that he made.
Abusing him or calling him names will not change anything, until the chronic injury is treated.

  4. Very well said alagba Balogun Adesina. This is an onerous task!

Many have lost due to lack of knowledge. And many are Copycats that they refused to value their Own. How come the Oyinbos are interested and striving hard to know our Trado-Culture more than our own children and people?

The simple answer is that “Too Know Syndrome” is what some of us are suffering from. We sabi English pass Englishman, We sabi Bible pass Bishop in Italy, and sabi Quran pass Imam for Mecca. We are fast in adopting foreign ideologies even if it is to the detriment of our Own. We suffered from Inferiority complex, we allowed us to be Brainwashed, Manipulated and Fooled. (Yes sir! Yes sir!! No spoil work!) Consequently, we fight against each other and our own. (Funrawon ni won o funrawon logun je). And as late Fela said “confusion break bone, double wahala for dead body…”
Are Asians not part of the so called “Technological Innovations and Advancements? Are they not part of the Modern Society? How come despite their successes nothing comes between them and their Traditions? These people did not only guard their cultures to be infiltrated but also their Socio-economics. Isn’t the result of their actions glaring for us all?
Ile la ti n ko esho ro’de. To ba ta ara ile e lo’opo it will be impossible to buy it expensively.

    Until we retraced our steps…

Prof. Famule. Imagine, what Africa will Be! Re Educating African teachers and Journalist is Crucial. Before it’s too late! This above, is a wake up Call!

You See, why I Started this Trail of Comments with my stance? “A NKI, A NSA, O PE O MO ENI O KU”! With all these Insightful Intelligent comments Above, Akowe Muyiwa Yet, didn’t Get It! This Situation here is Beyond Fela Kuti’s “Stalemate”, it’s Nearly Everything Wrong About Africa, Fela Spoke of, As Songs!

  7. Technology is usually improvement upon previous practices.
Now, The Dogon of Mali, whose traditions revolve around The Mysteries of the Star System Sirius, told the French more than the French ever knew. The Dogon did not have a telescope to look at Sirius with. And the French did not have a telescope at the time to see Sirius deeply enough at the time The Dogon told them about Sirius.
When the French DID Get a telescope powerful enough, the found that The Dogon told nothing but the exact truth.

Within the culture are keys. Europeans have been knowing this. That is why The Vatican and government sponsored Anyhropologists from Europe always go to Traditionalists to study them to learn something new, too take back to study. Europeans don’t go to Afrikan Christians or Afrikan Corporatists to learn anything because Europeans know what those 2 groups know because they taught it to them.
Afrikans are the ones under the spell of disrespecting what they have and therefore are blocked from gaining the advantages and blessings of their own human and landed resources .

The problem is not the traditions. The problem is the mind set of the people who think they have to do everything like the European in order to claim success.

  8. O nfi owo osi juwe Ile baba re. I see it as a challenge. Someone needs to
Show him how the Yoruba elders would stop a car engine from cranking or the technology used in helping a woman in labour for hours to deliver a baby without a C section or the technology they use in diverting or calling for rain
