Nigerian pilot writes concerning the higher level of unemployed Pilots in the Aviation Industry.

pilot

Achieving the dream of learning to be a pilot is just a lengthy and frustrating way to follow, it will take pure will and  determination  to earn a professional pilot license. The moment you constitute your brain about joining possibly the most exhilarating career on earth, the struggle begins which include raising the funds for the flight training which frankly isn’t a joke. Normally a pilot spends nothing significantly less than N10million on flight training

The funds needed seriously to see a pilot through flight school is nothing set alongside the stress and mental concentration needed to attain a professional pilot license.
You might expect that after every one of the struggles of of having a professional pilot license, theere will be job openings to crown the efforts of the ever growing quantity of pilots fresh out of flight schools. Sadly this is false, as a matter of fact you will find over 200 unemployed pilots presently in nigeria with some pilots being out of jobs for over 3 years.

This number is consistently rising as there are many Nigerians finishing from flight schools throughout the world on a regular basis to go back home and join the saturated market of unemployed pilots. This can be a sad situation because some pilots had to take loans from relatives and in some instances banks just to attain there dreams, which right now could be a nightmare.

The depression and frustration of unemployed pilots in nigeria has been fueled by the high number of expatriates pilots employed in nigeria while Nigerians are lavishing aware of no jobs. This really is sad that the airlines in nigeria prefer hiring this expatriates pilots when inside their countries you can get exactly the same job if you’re not a resident or permanent residence generally in most cases.

Job creation is just a fundamental responsibility of the federal government in power, that said the Nigerian government has been siting idle about the problem of unemployed pilots in nigeria hence letting it escalate to the stage.  The federal government cant force private aircraft owners to employ the unemployed, but government can support the airlines in this country through subsidized operational costs, government bail-out to airlines struggling in debt, passed laws that favors Nigerian citizens than expatriates and ultimately develop a NATIONAL CARRIER, which can be the foremost reason for the problem. It is a shame that the most populous country in Africa is with out a national carrier.

The causes giving by airlines why they don’t hire pilots straight out of flight school is they are inexperienced and without type rating, however just how can pilots fully grasp this experience when they’re not hired. General aviation is truly not practiced in Nigeria which can be another way young inexperienced pilot can build flight hours which can be the evidence of his/her experience by flying smaller planes for banner towing, sight seeing, pipelines inspections, tourism, skydiving, aerial photography and flight instructing.

The near future is uncertain for so many pilots in this great country and a drastic change is required urgently.
