African Traditional Medical Practice received a boost in Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday as the State Government reiterated its support for trado-medical healing homes for psychiatric patients. Mrs Omatsola Williams, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, gave the assurance during a meeting with the state chapter of the Association of Trado-medical Healing Home.
Williams who commended the association for their humanitarian services noted that the state government would continue to do its best in ensuring that the association was adequately supported in carrying out its services.
She appealed to them to be patient with the state government over the delay in the payment of their monthly stipends, adding that paucity of funds was a major challenge facing governments at all levels.
Responding, Mr Ayo Ben, chairman of the association, commended the state government for its immense contribution to the welfare of the destitute in the state. He said that one of the challenges facing the association was inadequate fund to feed and cater for the inmates in the various healing homes.
Ben urged the state government to release the funds timely, adding that it was very difficult to feed one inmate with just N75 per day.
