Suspected kidnapper have reportedly shot dead Funke Olakunrin – The victim is the daughter of Chief Reuben Fasoranti , the leader of Afenifere – The group’s spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin blamed the incident on herdsmen Funke Olakunrin who is the daughter of Chief Reuben Fasoranti has reportedly been shot dead. The daughter of the leader of the socio-cultural Yoruba group, Afenifere, was reportedly shot on Friday, July 12.
Source said she was coming from Lagos when her vehicle was attacked by kidnappers in Ore in Ondo state.
The Nation reports that Femi Joseph who is the police spokesperson in the state confirmed the tragic incident. He said the kidnappers also engage in armed robbery. The police said three vehicles were attacked by the kidnappers and that one of the passengers, Gerald Igboroka was yet to be found by the police. He said: “Information available to us is that suspected kidnappers who were 16 in number ambushed the three vehicles at Kajola. “The three vehicles were said to be going to Lagos and they were all attacked.”
He said the police were on the trail of the kidnappers and that the victims would be rescued in no distant time. He said none of the suspected kidnappers has been arrested, but efforts are on top gear to ensure their arrest. The spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odunmakin claimed the perpetrators were herdsmen. He said: “We have confirmed the death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin (58), daughter of our leader, Chief Fasoranti. “Eyewitness accounts say she died of gunshots from Fulani herdsmen who shot her at Ore junction in Ondo State earlier today.
“She was coming from Akure when the armed Fulani herdsmen came from the bush to attack her and other vehicles. “Her domestic staff in the car with her also sustained gunshots. “This is one death too many and a clear we-can-take-it-no-more death.”
