Weather, Logistics Hindering Terror War – Military

Service chiefs yesterday met with President Muhammadu Buhari and informed him that the weather and shortage of logistics were hindering the ongoing war against the Boko Haram insurgency.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted two hours, was also attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and National Security Adviser (NSA) retired Major-General Babagana Monguno.

Addressing State House correspondents after the meeting, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Olonisakin, said they briefed President Buhari on the security situation in the country after a 60-day review.
He explained that they had to brief the president on the challenges facing the military in the fight against Boko Haram so that the mandate the president had given them could be properly delivered.

“It was a normal consultation to intimate him [the president] of the issues on ground. We briefed him on the security situation on ground after a 60-day review and we had to brief him on the challenges we have and ensure that the mandate we have is properly delivered,” he said.
Asked what the challenges were, the Chief of Defence Staff stated: “Of course, the challenges we are looking at are the issues of probably the weather as it were and some other logistics that we feel we should have so that the mandate can be quickly delivered.”
