The 2016 Toyota Camry and Avalon sedans are now being recalled to deal with a concern that might prevent airbags from deploying.
The Japanese automaker announced that the recall affects approximately 16,880 model year 2016 Toyota Avalons and 41,630 model year 2016 Camry sedans. In the affected vehicles, the Occupant Classification System (OCS) may not be properly calibrated throughout the manufacturing process. The OCS is responsible for activating or deactivating the front passenger airbag system, with respect to the weight of the occupant.
Under some conditions, if improperly calibrated, the front passenger airbag and the front passenger knee airbag might not deploy as designed in the case of a collision, increasing the chance of a personal injury to the front passenger.
All known owners of the affected Toyota vehicles will soon be notified via high grade mail. To repair the matter, Toyota dealerships will recalibrate the OCS. The Japanese automaker didn’t reveal whether any accidents or injuries linked to the matter have now been reported.
