In an exceedingly sad turn of events, Singer Dbanj and his wife Lineo Didi Kilgrow have today lost their son Daniel.
Daniel Oyebanjo III who turned one in May is said to have died after drowning at Dbanj’s ikoyi residence this afternoon.
The singer is yet to issue a public statement but as time passes, we came to understand Dbanj as an extremely private person. It is going to be recalled that his marriage to his wife Didi, over this past year was done in secret and he never openly confirmed his marriage. Infact, in a current interview, he’s quoted to have stated that his marital status was no body’s business.
“My marriage is my business and it is none of your business. Whether I am married or not, mind your business. If you ever see a wedding ring on my finger, fine, but if you don’t, fine.”
“The truth about it is that it is very important to know what you want as a brand. As a brand, I wanted to focus on the business side and keep my family and private life, private and concentrate on CREAM.”
He further added that he kept his marriage secret because he did not want the complications, and attention of a celebrity relationship.
“I decided to keep my marriage to Didi a secret because based on experience, relationships like this get mixed with media hypes and speculations and then it becomes complicated,” he said.
“You know the pressure to get married was this high and mum told me she wanted to see the girl I was dating and would want to marry. I told her that there was this babe and we didn’t want to marry yet but she insisted that she was the one for me that we should have a small ceremony and the rest is history. I’m glad I listened to her” he said.
Dbanj popularly known as the Koko master rose to fame with his former partner Donjazzy, before the two went their separate ways. Over the years, he has won several music awards, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007, Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009.
He also won Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards, Evolution award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music awards.
Our hearts and prayers are with Dbanj and his family at this time, may God give them the fortitude to bear the loss, Ase.
