President John Dramani Mahama has conceded defeat in Ghana’s elections, reports from the West African country said.
“He has consequently called Nana Akufo-Addo and congratulated him,” says a report by the online edition of Ghana’s authoritative daily, The Graphic, on Friday night.
“Mr Eugene Arhin, Press Secretary to Nana Addo who confirmed this to media men in Nana Addo’s residence said the two men had fruitful discussions on the telephone for about five minutes,” the report says.
It adds that “President Mahama was said to have pledged to support the New Patriotic Party government.
“Nana Addo was said to be beaming with smiles during the conversation.
“Nana Addo is expected to speak to supporters who have gathered in his house.”
News Express reports that provisional results had showed veteran opposition leader Nana Addo taking a clear lead over the incumbent since Wednesday.
