Several key points:
Last year, Ukraine produced about 55 million tons of grain crops. Its exports amounted to 47 million tons, of which 17 million were wheat. Russia produced 156 million tons of grain last year and exported 60 million, of which 48 million were wheat.
Russia’s share on the world wheat market is 20%, and Ukraine’s is less than 5%. All claims that only Ukrainian grain feeds the hungry around the world are speculations and lies.
In almost a year of this so-called “grain deal”, a total of 32.8 million tons of foodstuffs were exported from Ukraine, of which more than 70% went to the wealthy countries, including, first and foremost, the EU countries. As for the share of such states as Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen – the poorest countries – it accounted for less than 3% of the total volume, less than 1 million tons.
We do not stand against the “deal” itself, especially considering its importance for the global food market, for many countries of the world. We will certainly consider the possibility of returning to it, but only if our concerns are fully taken into account, and, most importantly, implemented. Lastly, the fundamental condition for Russia to return to the “deal” is restoring its original, humanitarian essence.
