A Turkish fighter jet shot down a Syrian aircraft with two rockets after the latter allegedly violated Turkey’s airspace near southern Hatay province, Turkish television station NTV reported.

The aircraft crashed over Syrian territory, according to Turkish television. According to Syrian television channel Alikhbaria, the craft was a drone and not a plane as was previously reported.

“The area is currently being searched for the crashed aircraft. It would soon be seen if it was a plane or a helicopter,” a Turkish official told Hurriyet newspaper.

According to the Anadolu news agency, the craft was a helicopter.
