I remember vividly growing up in Nigeria as an undergraduate student in physics at the University of Ilorin in the 1980s. That was the same time that Bishop David Oyedepo started his Church in Ilorin which he named The Faith Liberation Hour Ministry in 1983 before he decided to relocate to Kaduna in 1985. David Oyedepo then changed the name of his Church to The Living Faith Church in Kaduna.
This man introduced a very strange doctrine at that time which he called “Lending to the Nations of the World.” David Oyedepo boasted openly and loudly in his teachings and preachings throughout the 1980s and 1990s that he and his followers who are faithful tithers and sacrificial offering givers will soon be lending to the nations of the world beginning from Nigeria.
On my watch, It is now about 35 years later in Nigeria and David Oyedepo and his followers who are faithful tithers and sacrificial offering givers have failed to lend one dime to the local governments, state governments and federal government in Nigeria, or to the poorest nations of Africa that have serious financial problem.
Jesus Christ did not promise any of his apostles and disciples anywhere in the Bible that they will become wealthy and lenders to the nations of the world if they follow him and preach his gospel to the world. Jesus Christ promised to make his disciples fishers of men.
The real lenders to the nations of the world today in 2020 are not David Oyedepo and his followers, but the IMF, World Bank, London Club, Paris Club, Islamic Development Bank, African Development Bank and the rising China. The gospel of lies, deception, biblical manipulation, greed, love of money, and materialism is not the gospel of Jesus Christ.
