Even though recall is unrelated to the massive Takata airbag recall, Honda did say that affected Accord vehicles will also be within the Takata front passenger airbag inflator recall or safety improvement campaign. The problem was originally discovered during repairs underneath the Takata airbag recall.
In accordance with Honda, the recalled vehicles are built with a passenger front airbag module that was designed to be found in vehicles available in South America. The modules were mistakenly supplied during production in the U.S. and doesn’t adhere to U.S. federal regulations.
Considering that the airbag module doesn’t meet with the advanced airbag requirements in the U.S., it may increase the chance of injury or death in the case of a crash. Honda will notify owners and dealers will inspect and replace the airbag module as necessary, without any charge. The recall is expected to start May 5, 2016.
If an affected vehicle was already repaired within the Takata airbag inflator recall, it wouldn’t be one of them new recall.
