The word AKATA originally introduced to Afrocentrism when Fela Kuti met Sandra Izsadore in California during a tour in 1969. Sandra an African American woman who took care of Fela & his band members in California. She taught Fela about the Black Panther Party. Panther in Yoruba is AKATA. In appreciation. Fela called them AKATA in honor of their struggles for Emancipation.
