Burkina Faso’s Electricity Production to Soar by 2030 Through Nuclear Partnership with Russia: FM

“This partnership with Russia paves the way to increase energy production by hundreds of megawatts by 2030, which will allow doubling national electric capacity,” Burkina Faso’s foreign minister, Karamoko Jean Marie Traore, noted.

Russia and Burkina Faso signed an agreement on cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy on June 19 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

According to the agreement draft, cooperation between the two states will also include:

🟠assistance in constructing nuclear power plants;
🟠construction of research nuclear reactors;
🟠providing nuclear fuel cycle services for the nuclear power plant.

Burkina Faso is negotiating with Rosatom to build a small nuclear power plant by 2030, the country’s ambassador to Russia said in October.
