This is my story: ‘I came into Cape Town with just R1000’ (23,000Naira then)

This is long overdue but I feel it might encourage somebody today: Some years ago, a timid young man took a step of faith to further his education. I came into Cape Town with just R1000 (23,000Naira then) without knowing any single person here. I left certainty for uncertainty because I believed I was in Eledumare’s plan.
I still remember the first day I stepped my foot into this city. That same day, I lost my way inside Metrorail train while I was looking for accommodation.

A couple of times, I slept at a police station in Cape Town, because it was too late to catch a train, and I could not afford a cab.
During my bachelor degree, I had to juggle studies with 4 to 6 jobs simultaneously. Yet by His grace, I finished Summa Cum Laude.

Long story short… Things have changed tremendously academically (1 bachelor, 2 postgraduate degrees), career wise, financially, etc…
I am grateful to say that my little life at UWC has inspired a number of students in many ways; some of whom finished their degrees with Summa Cum Laude.
Young African, your background has no power to keep your back on the ground!!!

Although I have not been faithful, Eledua has ever been faithful… He can rewrite any story.

And now the time to leave this beautiful city is drawing near. In about two months, I will be starting a Career/PhD programme at University of Texas at Dallas.
And while away in the U.S., Africa will always be in my heart. Its development will always be my career focus. Cape Town will always be a home for me.
Thank you Nigeria for giving me roots.
Thank you South Africa for giving me wings.

Eledumare bless Africa!!!
