40-Year-Old Man arrested For Illegal Possession Of Firearms

Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Ahmadu Mohammed for illegal possession of firearms.

Mohammed was arrested at Garatu village in the Bosso Local Government Area of the state after he was found with a fabricated AK – 47 rifle and two single -barrelled guns with two cartridges.

It was gathered that Mohammed was trailed and apprehended by a team of policemen attached to the Special Anti-Armed Robbery Squad of the Niger State Police Command following a tip-off .

Northern City News gathered on Thursday that the Mohammed was suspected to have participated in some armed robberies in the Bosso area before his arrest.

In an interview with newsmen, the suspect said , “ I am not a thief or a killer . I only use the gun to protect my family and my animals from evil people, who refuse to engage in any meaningful thing to better their lives .

“ I regret my action because I am not supposed to have any firearm under my roof without a licence from the constituted authority. I was only trying to protect my family and my animals. I beg the police to forgive me. ”

The Public Relations Officer of Police Command, Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the arrest, said , “ The command will no longer tolerate unlawful possession of firearms in the state and we have warned people to desist or face the wrath of the law. ”
