EFCC: Man Bags 3 Years Jail Term For ₦1.7m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, secured the conviction of one Anyalebechi Wilson Nwachukwu before Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court, sitting in Umuahia, Abia State.

Anyalebechi had been arraigned on May 5, 2014 on a 10-count charge bordering on forgery and obtaining money by false pretences to the tune of N1.7million (One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira).

The convict had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to him.

However, prosecution counsel,  Mainforce Adaka Ekwu,  urged the court to commence trial, when the convict later pleaded guilty to all the charges preferred against him.

Delivering his judgement, Justice Olubanjo found the accused person guilty on  the 10 counts  and sentenced him to three years imprisonment on each of the counts without an option of fine.

The sentence is to run concurrently from the date of  his arrest.
