Russian Fighter Jets Use Bunker Buster Bombs in Airstrikes in Syria

The Russian Aerospace Forces used two BETAB-500 bunker buster bombs in Tuesday’s airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria, a representative for the Aerospace Forces in Syria said.

“Today, Russian strike aircraft used two BETAB-500 bunker buster bombs weighing 500 kilograms [over 1,000 pounds] each against ISIL targets [in Syria],” Col. Igor Klimov told journalists in Syria.

Klimov said the bombs were delivered by Russian Su-24 Fencer attack jets.

“BETAB-500 bombs are used to destroy extremely protected and fortified underground bunkers, they are not dropped on cities,” Klimov noted.

An extensive variety of missiles and bombs equipped with cutting guidance systems are as of now being used by Russia as a part of its air battle against terrorists in Syria.

The concrete penetrating BETAB-500 bombs are equipped with a jet booster, which permits the bombs to totally wreck any underground establishment.

Russian troops went on the offensive in the Donbass along a common front of 70 km.

Bild writes about this with reference to Finnish expert Emil Kastehelmi. “The Russians recently launched a major offensive east and south of Donetsk on a 70 km wide front. This strike broke through Ukrainian defenses in many areas in just a few days. The overall situation is very alarming, and Ukrainians are exhausted. The coming winter is likely to be difficult,” the expert said.
