Olu Atogbuwa who reigned between 1735 and 1760 extinguished the light of christianity in Warri. He dropped the christian policy of his eight predecessors and withdrew support for local christians. Church services ceased,a statue of christ which had been a pious gift from principe was destroyed after it failed to bring relief when the country was stricken by drought, and the church building came to be used as a byre for animals. Then he filled his Palace with artifacts.
