Former Cuban Leader, Awo Fidel Castro to get Yoruba traditional Burial Rites ?

There is no doubt traditional aspects will be involved in the rites of final passage for former Cuban Leader, Awo Fidel Castro, who reports said will be cremated. Unfortunately, unlike what happens in other parts of the world, where they use the media to promote their culture and tradition, Africa remains gross underdeveloped when it comes to pushing our perspective to the outside world using the media.

Islam and Christianity got to where both are today due to the media of the written word. The West pioneered newspapers and electronic media with which they continue to dominate information dissemination and a promotion of their culture. CNN takes the lead here. The Asians are struggling with Al Jazeera, which broadcasts information from the Arab, thus, Islamic perspective.

In Africa, ours remain almost zero. We have NOTHING with which to tell our stories to the world. If Africa had one, different aspects of our culture and tradition as relates to the life and times of Fidel Castro – From the Traditional Perspective – should have rented the electronic waves globally since morning. The few we have remain courtesy of brothers and African friendly reporters, who are staff of wealthy ‘global’ (Western) media organisations.

 
As our own time fast-foward to going home, let’s be conscious to note the fact that UNTIL we can resolutely tell the African story through our own prism, the culture and tradition of our fathers, will continue to take a back seat. We should consciously do everything to encourage some of the big men out there, who still believe in Tradition to invest in the media (internationally).

The West tried to kill Al Jazeera – right from the war against Iraq – when their offices were bombed, to Libya and later Egypt. Of course, they also used Arabs, who do not understand Cultural Imperialism. Castro suffered the fate – Uncle Tom Cubans fighting from Miami and other places were used by the Americans to undermine him at almost every turn.
Cultural Imperialism is worse than Political Colonialism. A brain that is being fed the ‘right’ direction on culture and tradition will forever remain a slave to those giving the directions. Our prayers should be that as those who believe continue with the ways of our fathers, Olodumare should raise up the Big Men, who should also rise from America, Britain or France to champion the cause of fighting Cultural Imperialism using the best of electronic media that’ll show our ways to the world using our own perspective.
