Sigh!! Our girls cannot find husband because of high bride price – Tor Tiv

The Tiv paramount ruler, Prof. James Ayatse, on Monday cried out over outrageous bride price in the land, which he said had precluded young people from getting married.

Ayatse made this statement while speaking at a reception organised in his honour by his kinsmen, the Shangev-Ya Development Association in Kwande Local Government Area.

He added, “only cultural values of economic and social benefit to the people would be promoted, while those with ‘retrogressive tendencies’ would be discouraged.

“The council would make a law to prevent people from lavishing money for burial ceremonies.”
