I watched the lecture of Sheikh Gumi where he was advocating for violent protests in Nigeria. Not only that, he said the Muslim/Muslim ticket has not achieved anything political in Nigeria for the Islamic cause therefore, he supports outrage against the government. All this reminds me of the Iranian revolution of the 1980s. The Iranian revolution was not organized by the Shia Muslims but by neoliberal radical leftists who wanted to destroy the Iranian monarchy system and enforce Western-style democracy.
They accused the Shah of corruption and nepotism. In order to swell their ranks, they joined ranks with the Shia radicals who wanted to impose a Shia hard-line Islamic theocracy on Secular Iran. While the Iranian neoliberal youths (e. g Sowore) were burning buildings, picketing roads, and marching on the streets, Shia radicals were preparing for the violent takeover of the government of Iran.
After the rage and violence, the Shia radicals took over the government, while the ignorant Iranian youths used their own hands to impose terror on themselves. When the youths realized they had been used, they wanted to do another revolution but it was too late. Every single leader of the youths was either killed, jailed, or sent into exile by the new Shia-led governments, who took away all their voices and freedom and smashed secularism into pieces.
We wish Gumi and his fellow radicals all the best. You can start your revolution but remember that is the end of Nigeria as we know it once you make your move. We know our history and we understand Geopolitics. We also understand the political ideology of Izalas. Enough said. We will be waiting!
