Tani Olohun arrest drama rocks Ibadan as Kwara Police Officers are turned back

BREAKING: Police officers allegedly arrived in Ibadan from Ilorin this morning to arrest Tani Olohun over alleged abuse of the Islamic religion. It was said that the arrest was unsuccessful after residents reportedly resisted, fearing he would be taken to Ilorin. The Olubadan Palace and Chief Sunday Igboho were contacted, with Igboho reportedly calling the Commissioner of Police over the matter.

Officers from Kwara arrived Tuesday morning with a warrant from Ilorin’s Upper Magistrates’ Court, alleging Olohun’s actions risked public peace, including mocking Islamic prayer, and that he breached prior bail. Locals resisted, leading to a scuffle, until activist Sunday Igboho arrived, spoke with a senior official by phone, and the officers left without him. Oyo State Police then directed them back, citing territorial jurisdiction rules and urging the complainant to file in Ibadan. The attention of the Oyo State Police Command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media concerning some officers of the Kwara State Police Command who were in Ibadan on official duty to effect the arrest of one Mr. Tani Olohun. The Command wishes to clarify that the officers were acting pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the Upper Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, Ilorin, in connection with allegations bordering on conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The warrant was reportedly issued following the failure of the said Tani Olohun to honour the conditions of bail earlier granted to him, thereby prompting the court to order his arrest. Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, directed the officers to return back to their base and advice the complainant to approach the appropriate court in Ibadan, being the alleged place where the offence was committed, in accordance with due process and the principles of territorial jurisdiction.
