Hand of Ifa

It is an important and powerful tool to have . 
It puts you on course with Orunmila , Divination and deeper understanding to things that are coming . 

If your journey is taking you towards Ifa and you want to begin connecting with Orunmila then Hand of Ifa is a wonderful blessing to begin with without the obligations of full initiation into Ifa . 
When you are interested in receiving it make sure you know whom you are receiving it from . They should be knowledegable , humble and have good character . 

Ask them to make sure they are going to teach you how to divine for yourself . 
Receiving Hand of Ifa means you are able to begin to learn How to Divine for yourself . All Ile’s do NOT practice this so make sure you ask what will be expected of you and what you can expect . 
Dont be surprised if they say No , your not ready , be patient etc . A Baba/Iya may not want to teach if someone else made it for you . The only person obligated to teach you is the person that made it for you . 

When you receive it take your time , be patient , listen to your teacher Baba/Iya . Trust them when they say take your time , read Odu , see how it manifests in your life ask questions . Odu interpretation has a general and personal meaning as well . 

Be ready to look in the mirror at yourself Ifa is not a magic wand it is a system used to guide you on your path/destiny with greater success . This process takes years of study no one is born an Ifa priest . Ifa cannot be learned alone it is a communal system . There is always something to be learned from the Elders with time and patient . 

When you have an Elder teaching you something listen to them appreciate what you are being given their wisdom . Dont jump ahead and think you know better or are ready for more you are not . Find a good Odu book read , read , read then read , read , read then read read read . 

Keep a book of you readings , take notes. When you do the next readings add notes to your divination , write down how the particular Odu affected you during that week . Expand on the meaning of Odu . 
Your teacher should be telling you things to broaden your perspective . You will not see everything like they can you will not understand things like they do . This isn’t a race its a marathon pace yourself . 
I wish it was like the Matrix and we could just plug into it and download all the info . Receiving Hand of Ifa is plugging into Orumila it takes time to understand all that Ifa is saying . 

When you have a good teacher stick it out with them Good teachers are so hard to find they don’t fall from the sky or grow on trees . Be thankful for all they teach you teachers need to be appreciated and love to see a student grow .
