FG Presents 1st Made-in-Nigeria Innoson Vehicle

FG restated commitment to the achievement of 100 per cent local content in the automobile industry. This is stated by Dr Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, while unveiling the initial made-in-Nigeria car manufactured by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company.

This kind of feat will further expand the nation’s manufacturing sector.

Based on the minister, Nigeria has recently attained 60 to 70 per cent local content, while still targeting 100 per cent local content within the next few years. The brand new auto policy produced by President Jonathan’s administration would start to see the establishment of three vehicle manufacturing plants in the nation, including Lagos/Ibadan for the west, Kaduna/Kano for the north and Nnewi for the east.

Aganga said,

“It is special and historic to unveil the first made-in-Nigeria cars manufactured by the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Nnewi. No country manufactures 100 per cent of all the components and we are unveiling cars that have up to 70 per cent local content. Nnewi has made history. It’s another government milestone.”

It would be recalled the new automobile policy was reviewed and enforced late last year by President Jonathan to enable the production of made-in-Nigeria cars, giving Nigerians the opportunity for mass employment and innovation in automotive technology,
