The immediate past governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatude Fashola, SAN, has asserted that he had always remained loyal to whatever cause he subscribed to all through his public life. This was as he declared that, “I always pray for my loyalty never to be tested.”
The former Governor stated this on Wednesday in reaction to a question thrown at him about his level of loyalty while appearing before the Senate to be screened as Minister of the Federal Republic.
Regarding the allegations of corruption that have trailed his administration, he said the unfortunate thing about money is that it always raises suspicion even among brothers, adding that in all the allegations flying around, nobody ”has alleged that I have corruptly enriched myself.”
On what he can do if he is sent to the FCT Ministry, Fashola said, “I must confess that my knowledge of Abuja is not as deep as my knowledge of Lagos.” Noting that Abuja is about twice the size of Lagos. He stated that in deciding what to do with Abuja, getting to know of its asset and its residents were very important.
He added that the master plan of the FCT needs to be reviewed periodically, with planning rigorously followed to make the city more beautiful.
He also made a case for the creation of state police, stressing that the nation is under-policed as things stand presently.
The former Governor, after a long interaction with the Senators was asked to take a bow and go.
