Criticism, Opposition Won’t Stop Collection Of Land Use Charge – Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state has insisted that no amount of criticism would stop the collection of all payable taxes and the full implementation of the Land Use Charge law in the state.

Oshiomhole who spoke after receiving the report on the reforms of the Edo Inland Revenue Services from the Principal Consultants, Ifueko Omoigui Okauru, said he promised to manage Edo with funds generated from taxes and vowed that no one would be exempted.

He said the more property a person owns, the bigger tax the person is expected to pay.

“This is our State. We have to manage it with the taxes that we generate. What we promised is that the taxes collected will be judiciously used in a way that we deliver the greatest good to the greatest number of people.

“We will not tolerate a situation where one person would acquire massive expanse of land and a lot of landed property but refused to pay the Land Use Charge,” the Governor said.

Earlier while presenting the report to the Governor, Okauru, said the reform exercise was in phases and that the third phase was the implementation with the application of technology with minimal involvement.

The Land Use Charge Act passed by the Edo State House of Assembly two years ago, comprises of Tenement rate, Property tax and Ground Rent.
