A member from the House of Representatives Igariwey Iduma Enwo has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari under the watchful eye of an Abuja Federal Court over the release of N700 billion grants to states to pay excess of pay rates purportedly “without following constitutional process.”
President Buhari had on July 6 affirmed the release of the funds for the states to have the capacity to settle several months’ salaries they owed their workers.
In any case, Rep Enwo said the president abused Section 164 of the 1999 Constitution, which provides such grants could only be given after endorsement by the National Assembly, yet that Buhari did not show the matter to the administrators before taking the choice.
He prayed the court to announce Buhari’s activity as unlawful and prevent the event of such in future.
Others joined in the suit are Attorney-General of the federation, federal ministry of finance , Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Accountant General of the federation and the Auditor General of the federation.
