The 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 ‘s almost upon us, but right before its official Tuesday reveal date they’ve given us sneak pay attention to its glorious exhaust note. The sampling comes via automotive YouTuber Emelia Hartford, who’s dealing with Chevrolet to debut the initial mid-engined Z06.
Hartford uploaded two short videos to her social media account. The first showed a C8 Z06, still wearing its camouflage, in an anechoic chamber. It will a slow climb to the flat-plane 5.5-liter V8’s stratospheric 8,600 rpm redline. Every time you anticipate the note to be always a crescendo, the Chevy delivers more in an apparently endless escalation.
An additional video has Hartford plugging her ears by the quad exhaust as a driver spikes the go-pedal.
The revs peak as instantaneously as the most exotic supercars, sounding similar to a BMW or Lexus V8 as opposed to the low, lumpy-cammed thump-thump of traditional Detroiters or the powerful but frankly tinny sound of the C7 Z06.
The engine relates to the V8 present in Chevy’s Corvette C8.R race car, which in fact has less power and less redline at 7,600 rpm. Those are as a result of rules in the racing series by which it competes, not a design limitation.
The vehicle in the anechoic chamber looks nearer to the Z06 that Chevy has officially shown since it lacks the giant wing seen on the Z06 in spy shots and in the next video. Both spoilers change from the main one located on the base Corvette.
As well as the wing, the Z06 may have more aggressive front and rear fascias. The medial side intakes feeding the mid-mounted V8 seem to have a different shape as well, with wider and contrasting colors inside their housing.
The V8 sounds befitting of a mid-engined supercar and foretells good reasons for the Z06. We’ll know more when the state release occurs tomorrow.
