SOTD: What is your first thought when you see or hear about Nigerians?

I think about two female attorneys in knew when when I was still practicing law. They were very good attorneys, both born, raised and educated in Nigeria.

They had not known each other in Nigeria, but met when they immigrated to California with their husbands.

At the risk of being called a sexist,  both were beautiful women, and were very intelligent and well educated. But the most striking feature of each was how they spoke for they had learned their English at a university in Nigeria, where they were taught “The Queens English”.

They spoke a formal, eloquent English with a combination of a British and Nigerian accents.

It was like listening to music and I could spend hours talking to them just to listen to them speak.

However, I never learned to pronounce their African names.
