A former Deputy Governor of Osun State , Iyiola Omisore , has finally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the Social Democratic Party where he explained he wanted to contest the September 22 governorship election in their state.
Omisore announced his defection in a statement made open to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday.
He made his decision to dump his former political party some hours following a governorship aspirant on the platform of the SDP , Chief Kola Oladeji , said he will give the brand new entrant to the party a great fight for the governorship ticket of the party.
The former governor said his governorship ambition could be realised on the platform of his new political party , saying he was willing to rescue their state from the ruling All Progressives Congress and return it to the trail of prosperity.
Omisore said he played a large role in the synthesis of the Alliance for Democracy but was forced to leave the party and join the PDP. He vowed he would remain devoted to ensuring good governance in Osun State and wouldn’t allow any treachery or gang – up to create him lose focus.
The statement read in part , “Engaging and working with like – minded leadership , we have sought for an alternative platform that will assure both credible and legitimacy that will rescue Osun State from its current reckless misrule . Our quest for an alternative political platform is basically in pursuit of a credible political structure that would guarantee that our people enjoy the benefits of accountable leadership at the state level from now.
“Notwithstanding my enormous contributions over the past years or so to building the PDP , after very deep thought and the widest consultations with my God, my family, my supporters in and outside Osun State, it is with great concern that I have made a very expedient decision today, to withdraw my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party and join the Social Democratic Party ; a party that believes in a balanced, equitable and truly functional Nigeria. ”
