Kingsley Ikeri, a businessman from Imo state, has been killed in Vryheid town in Kwazulu Natal province, according to to the Nigeria union in South Africa. Ikeri, 27, was reportedly killed on Wednesday. Bartholomew Eziagulu, chairman of the union in the province told NAN, that the businessman was allegedly tortured to death by police officers.
Eziagulu said the police used plastic bag to cover his face in a bid to get information from him.
“In the process, they suffocated the deceased suffocated. When the police took him to the hospital, he was confirmed dead,” the chairman of the union, said.
Adetola Olubajo, secretary general of the union, said the national secretariat had been informed about the death of Ikeri.
Olubajo said the Nigerian authorities and the police in South Africa have also been notified.
Ikeri’s death happened two weeks after Uchena Eloh, a Nigerian, was killed by policemen in the Western Cape province of the country.
