Ex-News of the World Editor bags Eight Months in Prison Over Phone-Hacking

London’s Central Criminal Court sentenced Ian Edmondson, former editor of the now-defunct News of the World newspaper, to eight months in jail for phone-hacking.

Edmondson admitted he conspired along with his colleagues and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire to intercept voice mails in the time from 2000 to 2006 to be able to get exclusive materials about politicians and celebrities. The News of the World owned by the media magnate Rupert Murdoch was closed in 2011, when the police revealed massive criminal activity of the newspaper. Edmondson is the eighth journalist of the newspaper who has been convicted of widespread hacking. Ex-chief editor of the News of the World was sentenced to 18 months in prison for bugging members of the royal family.
