The Blair House is located on 1651–1653 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., opposite the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of the White House, off the side of Lafayette Park. The house was inherent 1824 as a block house and private home for Joseph Lovell, eighth Surgeon General of the United States Army yet was procured in 1836 by Francis Preston Blair, a daily paper distributer and persuasive guide to President Andrew Jackson
