The President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan aka Mr Latin, has reacted to the recent Instagram outbursts between his colleagues, Toyin Abraham and Lizzy Anjorin.
On Monday, lawyers representing Toyin wrote Lizzy demanding a public apology from her for accusing the former of cyber-bullying.
The rift between both actresses took a different dimension on Tuesday after Lizzy petitioned the Nigeria Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over a drug peddling allegation levelled against her by Toyin.
Mr Latin addressed the issue on Tuesday.
He said there is little the body (TAMPAN) can do about the feud between the actresses because they do not belong to the umbrella body of Yoruba actors.
“There is little we can do to intervene in an issue that involves non-members,” he said.
Despite insinuating that the actresses are not TAMPAN members, he promised to find a solution to their ongoing feud.
Mr Latin made the clarification after fans attacked TAMPAN for not intervening in the feud.
In his address, Mr Latin also charged his younger colleagues to remain cordial, support one another and shun envy.
This is not the first time TAMPAN would be attacked for not intervening in the regular social media spats between Yoruba actresses.
Catfights are very common among Yoruba actresses and often linger for years and sometimes, decades.
From Mercy Aigbe to Iyabo Ojo and the latest warring parties, this year alone, a host of other Yoruba actresses have taken to Instagram to fight dirty at different times.
Their regular social media spats are a source of concern to their colleagues and fans alike.
Veteran actors like Dele Odule and Yinka Quadri have waded in occasionally.
Background
In several Instagram posts on Saturday, Lizzy alleged that Toyin opened multiple Instagram accounts to troll her and attack her colleagues in the industry.
She also tagged Toyin a “lying bastard.”
She also claimed that Toyin leaked damaging reports about her to blogs.
In response, Toyin expressed shock that Lizzy mentioned her name in the drama despite the fact that the account which attacked her belonged to a fan.
A report indicated that Lizzy was allegedly held on drug peddling suspicions during her recent trip to Saudi Arabia.
The actress, however, said that nothing was found on her and accused Toyin of being behind the reports.
Recall that the enmity between the duo came to the fore when Toyin had her baby in August and Lizzy failed to congratulate her.
The duo used to be friends but things fell apart and Toyin, who is married to another man, is alleged to attack many through her numerous fans.
As expected, their fans started hurling insults on their respective pages.
Lizzy is not new to controversy and online bickering.
She once hurled insults at her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, because the latter demanded that she addressed her as “auntie”.
It was a big issue until they finally reconciled after a 10-year battle and constant fights.
She also attacked another colleague, Ronke Oshodi-Oke, and called her a beggar and a shameless woman on Instagram.
