Niger State, a Tourist Paradise

Tapping into the prestige and panache of Abuja, Niger state is a perfect corridor to survive the peak expenses of Nigeria’s capital city. This readily makes Niger state a choice destination for tourist, business executives and foreigners.

Ranked as the largest state in Nigeria in terms of landmass-76,363 km2- Niger state was created on 3rd February 1976. It has 25 local government areas with a population of 3,950,249 according to figures from the National Population Census conducted in 2006. The state holds key hydropower stations which are strategic to Nigeria’s existence as a nation – the popular Kainji and Shiroro dams.

Tourist attractions are numerous around Niger and Jovago.com beams its searchlight on this state which derived its nomenclature from the popular River Niger.

TOP THREE SITES

1) Gurara Waterfalls
Niger State

The splendour of this waterfall is inundating. It spoils visitors with an atmosphere of bliss and calm. The ambience is animate and beckons from all sides to visitors to check ‘him’ out.

Located in Gurara local government, the waterfall has a width of 300 metres and cascades from a height of 50 metres. The rush of the waterfall is between April and November while it recedes between January and March. It was discovered in 1745.
